About Wren Leadership

Inspiring mindful leaders

eadership presence is a tangible quality: it requires full and complete nonjudgmental attention in the present moment. That’s what Wren Leadership lives to do. We develop Mindful Leaders. The Mindful Leader embodies leadership presence by cultivating focus, clarity, creativity and compassion in the service of others.

“Jackie’s work with our students at the University of Toronto and our associate teachers provided a forum for our action and reflection in the design of powerful learning environments. Jackie is an intensely caring and thoughtful educator.”

Dr. Barrie Bennett,
Associate Professor: Curriculum, Teaching and Learning: Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto

We have carefully developed a set of mindfulness workshops designed to help you learn to be present – and integrate leadership presence in all that you do. Not only will you be the effective leader you were destined to be, you may also experience additional benefits, ranging from more productive work performance, decreased anxiety and stress to improved sleep and better overall health.

“Mindfulness should no longer be considered a “nice-to-have” for executives. It’s a “must-have”: a way to keep our brains healthy, to support self-regulation and effective decision-making capabilities, and to protect ourselves from toxic stress.”

Christina Congleton,
Change & Leadership Coach

Genesis of Wren Leadership: Jackie’s Story

In 2011 I began a leadership journey that changed my life and put me on the path that led to the development of Wren Leadership.

The intensive Co-Active® Leadership Program offered through CTI empowered me to uncover, deepen, and build upon my natural strengths as a leader, and that experience is integral to the mission and success of Wren Leadership.

Having been an administrator for the previous 11 years, I felt a powerful pull to explore my leadership beliefs and style, and to look at ways to bring my strong beliefs in relational knowing to my work. I saw this path as a way to more fully understand myself as a leader, to grow in that role, and to break through my self-perceived limits in order to be more fully present in my leadership role – and, indeed, in every part of my life.

On the first day of the program I was given a beautiful leather-bound book that described the journey I would be taking and informed me that I would now be part of the Wren Tribe.

I was so inspired by the story of the wren that I knew it would be the symbol for the service I would offer others. The symbol of the wren illustrates the mindful and creative nature of this little bird who ultimately became the “king of birds” according to an Old German fable. It is said that the bird who could fly to the highest altitude would be king. While the eagle usually out flew all other birds, he was creatively outwitted by the wren who had mindfully hidden in his plumage; soaring to new and greater heights once the eagle had landed.

I believe we are all wrens. Through mindfulness, we free our creativity, and our innate playfulness to become fully prepared and present, wherever life takes us.
